As the centuries pass, the Lemarchand family's fortunes rise and fall, but their connection to the puzzle box and the Cenobites remains a constant, driving force behind their actions. In the present day (1996), we meet Adam/John (played by Bruce Spencer), a direct descendant of Johann Lemarchand who becomes embroiled in a battle against the forces of evil.
Unlike its predecessors, which largely focused on the immediate, visceral aftermath of summoning the Cenobites, Bloodline tackles the legacy of pain. The narrative structure follows a "bloodline" of the Lemarchand family, trying to rectify the mistake of their ancestor.
