CLRMamePro has been the standard tool for ROM management for years. To convert a split set, you would use its "Rebuilder" function. When setting up the rebuilder, you would navigate to the "Merge Options" and explicitly select . The tool will then copy and combine files from the parent sets into each clone to create fully independent ZIPs.

In a non-merged set, a clone ROM contains all the files needed to run the game, including those shared with its parent. This means if you have the US version of Street Fighter II , it will contain every single byte of data required for that specific version to work, even if most of that data is identical to the World version. A full MAME set contains thousands of games, including casino titles, mahjong games, and unplayable prototypes. Most gamers prefer to curate a "Best Of" list. Given its strengths and weaknesses, the non-merged format is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It is, however, the perfect choice for several common scenarios.
