The Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in Tamil Nadu is governed by the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. Under the NFSA, eligible beneficiaries are entitled to receive 5 kg of food grains per person per month at highly subsidized prices. However, as previously mentioned, Tamil Nadu goes above and beyond the NFSA by operating a near-universal PDS, covering a much larger section of its population and ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left behind.
