Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a direct sequel set roughly two decades after the events of the first film. The story shifts from a magical board game to a retro 16-bit video game cartridge. When four high school students discover an old video game console in detention, they are literally sucked into the world of Jumanji, forced to become the adult avatars they chose on the character select screen. The twist? Their in-game strengths and, more comically, their weaknesses are very real.
The story picks up over two decades after the original 1995 classic. The magical board game that once trapped Alan Parrish (Robin Williams) has evolved. In a high-tech twist, Jumanji has transformed into a vintage 1996 video game cartridge, discovered by four very different high school students.
